How do I Order a cake?
The easiest way to start the cake-ordering process is to email (sugarlandcakesut@gmail.com) or call (801)645-8904. Please be as specific as possible so we have enough information to get you an accurate price. Also please feel free to send pictures or ideas as well as how many people you will need to serve, to start the process. We will then contact you to discuss your order and schedule a consultation if needed. See our Wedding Cake Process.
How much do your cakes cost?
Every cake is custom designed, we do not have set prices. Our cakes are priced according complexity & size. Factors that affect the price include cake sculpting, fondant or chocolate decorations, detailed piping, painting, airbrushing and other time consuming design elements. Faux cake tiers are available for 5%-10% off the cost of a “real” tier of the same cake. This is a fantastic way to add height, size, and presentation when you have a smaller guest list. Ask for details. All shaped/sculpted cakes have a minimum sizing of 15-20 servings, since we need a minimum amount of actual cake to achieve these designs. We cannot make a 3D Sculpted cake for any fewer than 15 servings. The price depends on the complexity, design, special stands and supports, etc. We are happy to work within your event budget, and encourage you to contact us to discuss options.
Do you require a deposit?
How do you accept payment? How do I reserve an event date? Wedding cakes & event cakes do require a $50.00 non-refundable deposit to hold the date. Full payment of the remaining balance is due 2 weeks prior to theevent. Full payment of the remaining balance for special event cakes is due at the time of pick-up or delivery. We accept payments via Paypal, Square or Cash. Checks will not be accepted for any payment made less than 2 weeks from due date.
How do I schedule a consultation & cake tasting?
Consultations & Tastings are reserved for Wedding Cakes and cakes over $400.00. Cake tastings are available by request once the order is confirmed and a deposit is accepted. Not all flavors will be available during the tasting. During the meeting, we will also finalize the design of your cake. If you should need to reschedule, or cancel, we ask that you contact us no later than 48 hours in Advance. All consultations are by Appointment Only. Please call or email to see if your date is available and schedule an appointment. Consultations are encouraged but not required. All other orders may be placed via phone or email. A $50.00 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your date, which goes toward your total balance. The final balance is due two weeks prior to the event date. Additional changes are possible up to two weeks prior to the event date. Consultations allow us to discuss your cake design, flavor and pricing details. Only after we have accepted a deposit and have a signed wedding cake contract will your date be reserved.
How far in advance should I place my order?
As soon as you know you want a cake, of course! Bookings are made on a first come, first pay basis. We are a boutique cake studio and are limited in the number of events we can handle each week. We encourage that wedding cake orders are placed at least 1 month in advance and all other orders placed at least 2 weeks in advance. Each cake we create is completely custom from start to finish, which means we do not have any pre-made cakes for sale, and cannot complete cake orders placed day of. If your request is not within the recommended time frame, do not hesitate to contact us as we often have last minute openings.
Do you deliver?
While it is usually not a problem for our clients to pick-up smaller cakes from our shop, self-transporting any cake is at your own risk. Sugarland Cakes does not recommend self-transport of 3D/sculpted cakes, cakes stacked over 2 tiers tall, or travel with any cake more than 3 hours. If you do choose to pick up your cake please make sure you have someone to hold the cake or a clean vehicle with a flat surface to place the cake. We are not responsible for any damage that may occur to any client-transported cake once it is your care. Every venue has different policies in receiving “outside food” which includes cakes. Please do your research… ask if they accept outside cakes and if there are any cake cutting fees applied.
Do your cakes taste as good as they look?
Absolutely!! Every cake is baked from scratch using only fresh, high quality ingredients. We never have and never will use cake box mix. Every cake is baked to order.
Do you offer buttercream finish?
We can, but the design capabilities are limited. Buttercream is made of butter, which softens at room temperature and melts in the heat. This means you’re cake might melt or turn yellow as is warms. If you would like a buttercream cake, please make sure it stays cool. If the event is outdoors we suggest a Fondant Finish!!
What is Fondant?
Fondant is an edible sugar dough used to cover a cake. Fondant keeps the cake moist, holds shape and does not melt like buttercream. We use Satin Ice FondantI make my fondant from scratch; it tastes great and gives the cake a more elegant look. I always add a layer of buttercream under the fondant just in case a guest does not prefer fondant. Fondant is amazing, it allows us to add detail, airbrushing, ruffles, creating textures, sculpting figurines, etc. If you do not care for fondant we can cover the cake in buttercream or modeling chocolate.
Is Sugarland Cakes Licensed?
Yes, we are licensed.* If needed we are happy to forward our information to your venue.
Can I choose more than one flavor?
Each sculpted cake and single tier must be composed of a single flavor, but a tiered cake may have multiple flavor options. Each tiered cake has a determined number of complimentary flavor options- For example, a 3 -tier cake comes with 2 complimentary flavor choices. A 5-tier cake comes with 3 complimentary flavors. Additional flavors are available but at an additional fee.
Do you have a shop for me to visit?
I do not have a store front. However, I am available for consultations at my studio by appointment only. The best days for appointments are from Monday to Wednesday afternoon / evening.
